Women Build 2010 - Sea Island Habitat for Humanity

By:  Shelley Priester

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010 was a very special
day for me!  I was able to physically participate
in my first Habitat for Humanity project with
several other women who are members of the
Charleston Trident Home Builders Association.
Tori Stein, of Atlantic Builders Inc. and the
past president of the CTHBA, invited several
of us (ladies) to lend a hand at this year's
Women Build 2010 for the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity home for the Martinez family.  Donned
with a hard hat, safety glasses and hammer, we
worked through the rain and made many new
friends.  It was such a GREAT experience and
I will definitely be participating again in the near
future.  To find out more information about the
Sea Island Habitat for Humanity visit their website

Granite Countertop Care

Granite countertops are a great asset
to any kitchen or bathroom. According to
HGTV, granite countertops are the top
choice among homeowners.  The fusion
of different rocks, minerals, and ores
gives granite its unique color.  No two
granite pieces are the same which
gives each granite countertop its own
uniqueness and individuality.  With the
availability of many different colors,
granite's durability, heat resistance and
longevity make it a great choice for
kitchen and bathrooms.
Here are a few simple tips from Center Reed of the Granite Center, LLC in Charleston, SC to keep your stone surfaces looking their best.

  • Blot spills immediately with a paper towel.  Do Not wipe the area, it will spread the spill.
  • Clean the countertop with warm water and a few drops of mild or antibacterial dishwashing detergent.  Rinse the surface thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.  Don't use abrasive dry or soft cleaners, those containing harsh chemicals, or vinegar-based products.
  • Granite can take hot pans, but not hot fat.  Avoid placing anything with hot cooking oils on the counter top.
  • Do NOT stand or sit on your countertops.  Granite, marble and quartz countertops are very hard but not flexible; therefore, too much weight in one spot could cause a crack.
  • Do NOT store toiletry products directly on top of granite or marble countertop surfaces.  Hair products, perfumes, colognes, nail products, creams, etc. have a tendency to leak or spill and go unnoticed.
With proper care, your granite countertops will retain their natural beauty for years to come.

A special thanks to Center for these great tips.  For more information, you may call Center Reed at 843-343-9769.

Making Your Master Bathroom Your Own Personal Sanctuary

While many home decors are turning more simple, bathrooms are receiving the royal treatment.  Does your bathroom have elegance, softness, and sophistication?  These are keywords for bathroom decor these days.  If you are thinking of remodeling your bathroom, consider adding features of comfort and elegance which in turn create a unique, rich, or spa-like sanctuary in the privacy of your own home.

In new construction, bathrooms are getting larger and include areas such as dressing areas, walk-in closets, air-jet tubs, separate showers, gym equipment and sauna rooms.  A bathroom is becoming a destination place in search of the tranquility that a spa-like sanctuary has to offer.

In bathroom remodeling, homeowners are removing walls or converting small bedrooms to create bathrooms with luxurious amenities such as heated towel racks, televisions, lounging chairs, and a fireplace.  Remember bathroom design is just as important as the elements that are included in your bathroom resort!

Here are a few choices in making your bathroom -- "Your" Personal Sanctuary:

1)  Cabinets

Custom cabinetry is designed to provide convenience, accessability, and maximum storage in addition to looking like a piece of furniture.

2)  Tile

With the wide variety of ceramic, glass or natural stone, tile is the easiest way to customize your bathroom retreat.  There are many fun and exciting accent tiles available that can bring contrast and texture to your bathroom.  Glass tile accents are very popular right now and give great shine to the bath and create a sleek sophistication.

3)  Countertops

Granite countertops will always look rich, elegant, and beautiful!  Available in a wide variety of colors, granite is a great addition to achieve sophistication and value to your home.  **Visit our blog next month for tips on caring for your beautiful new granite countertops.

4)  Lighting

Light fixtures are an important element to create the tranquility of a spa-like experience.  Consider adding decorative wall sconces around the sink and counter area, a sparkling chandelier, and also some recessed lights that are operated by a wall dimmer to achieve the soft light for a soaking bath.

5)  Custom Mirrors and Glass

Remove the large wall-sized mirror over your bathroom sink and replace it with a beautiful framed mirror.  Use frameless glass surrounds and doors to accent your shower.

6)  Plumbing Fixtures

Depending on the style of your bath, choose decorative faucets of chrome, brushed nickel, or oil rubbed bronze.  To further the spa experience, add a rainhead, a hand-held sprayer, and body sprays to your shower.

7)  Cabinet Knobs

By adding cabinet hardware (knobs or pulls) to cabinets, it creates contrast and sheen not to mention a finishing touch to your cabinets.

8)  Accessories

Add color and interest to your bathroom by hanging a few pieces of art and filling some glass jars with colorful bath salts Include luscious, plush towels in colors to compliment the decor and display them rolled in a basket, placed on a shelf, or hanging from decorative hooks.

Elegance and luxury are not hard to achieve with the wide range of products that are available for today's updated bathrooms.  Visit our website  for bathroom design ideas and "before and after" pictures on our Renovations Gallery .

Certified Green Professional

Priester's Custom Contracting, LLC has earned the Certified Green Professional ( CGP ) designation
from the National Association of Home Builders ( NAHB ).  This NAHB designation "recognizes builders,
remodelers, and other industry professionals who incorporate green building principles into homes--
without driving up the cost of construction.  Classwork leading to the designation provides a solid
background in green building methods, as well as the tools to reach consumers, from the organization
leading the charge to provide market-driven green building solutions to the home industry."

Earning the Certified Green Professional designation requires certification in an NAHB program specifically designed to qualify a builder as an expert in Green Building.  Certified Green courses teach residential builders how to reduce environmental impact by incorporating appropriate green practices into their construction products.  It then requires continuing education in the newest green building products and technologies.

Priester's Custom Contracting, LLC has incorporated several green building techniques in previous
projects; such as Low E windows, high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, high efficiency
appliances and tankless, on-demand hot water heaters.  By receiving the Certified Green Professional designation, we continue our commitment to meet our client's needs and offer exceptional customer service to build
a sustainable custom home.

Why Use a Custom Home Builder?

custom home builder is defined by About.com as a licensed builder that "constructs a one-of-a-kind home that is designed for a specific client and for a particular location".  The plans for a custom home are created by an architect or a professional home designer.  A custom home is a reflection of you, your personality, your lifestyle, and your values.  The goal is to create a design that will enhance your quality of life.  Building your dream home should be
one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of your life!  Choose a custom builder that has a reputation for open communication, dependability and quality construction because you will be working with them for several months on one of your most important investments..."your home".

Your custom home builder should ensure that your ideas and participation provide the foundation for your custom home.  The important point is to find a custom home
builder that you trust.  With a face to face meeting, you should feel comfortable with your builder, their knowledge of the entire building process, their experience, and their commitment to you and your home.

As a residential custom home builder in Charleston, SC, Priester's Custom Contracting is an award-winning builder that provides the experience and superior customer service that is necessary to guide you through the entire building process.  A family-owned company that cares enough to provide personal hands-on service with every homeowner and oversees the smallest details, Priester's Custom Contracting creates a positive building experience that exceeds our customer's expectations with dependability, integrity, quality, and professionalism while building long lasting relationships.  We do this by putting you, our customer, first.

Priester's Custom Contracting feels that your participation is crucial to achieve success.  We personally guide you through your custom home building experience.  We are proud to have you consider us for your next home.

Friendships -- The Real Prize!!!

We are very excited to announce that Priester's Custom Contracting

the Charleston Trident Home Builders
Association
in the category of Best
Product Single Family Homes
$3,000,000 - 4,000,000 for Richard
and Linda Slack's Home in Dunes West.
We thoroughly enjoyed the experience to
share in building their dream home.

Although awards are fun to win, we value
the friendships that we make along the way
with each and every homeowner that we work
with!  It is a pleasure to help make our client's
dreams a reality by guiding them through the
entire home building process.  It is the homeowner's designs and ideas that ultimately
create "their home" that they can be proud of
and enjoy for years to come.

It is a blessing to be able to work in a field that we enjoy which is what custom home building and remodeling is to us!  Thank you for letting us
share in yours!!!
